| I want
to put in radiant heat but I am installing hardwood
floors. I hear that radiant heat is not good for hardwood
floors and it causes them to shrink. What should I do?
This is a misconstrued fact. Radiant heat does not directly
cause the hardwood to shrink, improper installation
of the hardwoods and the moisture content when they
were installed is the biggest contributing factor. Be
selective on where you buy from and who you use to install
your hardwood floors. Hardwoods should be acclimated
to the environment that it is installed in and have
a 6% or less moisture content when they are installed.
Most hardwood floor contractors today just send it from
the truck, to your floor and never do these steps. Make
sure your flooring contractor knows the proper way to
install hardwood floors over radiant heat. Visit www.launstein.com
I want to install a nice carpet with a thick
padding, but I hear that the radiant heat will not work
properly, what should I do?
Carpet is no problem, if you use radiant floor approved
padding. This padding is a waffle or solid rubber padding
with low R values, not that pressed foam or foam type
padding. Visit www.sponge-cushion.com
I am building a Log Cabin Home or a Post and
Beam Home, can I install radiant heat in these types
of houses?
Yes you can. Radiant heat is the best alternative heat
for Log Cabins and post and beam homes. Cabins leave
you no flat walls for baseboard, and Post and Beam homes
usually present a problem for baseboard as well when
it comes to trying to complete loop zones in the baseboard,
because you can not drill into the main beam structure
of the house.
I have an existing home, can I have radiant
heating system installed in it?
Yes you can. Radiant heating can be installed in existing
homes with many options available to you, for the types
of installation that is needed to suit the existing
conditions of your home.
I have an existing heating system and I am
just remodeling my bathroom or kitchen, can I install
radiant heating in them?
Yes you can. Bathrooms and Kitchens are usually a source
for cold floors in a conventional heating system .Most
people realize this, and are now becoming aware of floor
warming and what radiant heating can do to keep these
floors consistently warm to the feet, even when your
thermostat on your conventional heating system tells
you its warm, but your floors are not.
I am putting an addition on my home, can I
put radiant heat it the addition?
Yes you can. Radiant heat can be used in conjunction
with any other heating system. We can provide you with
many different alternatives of radiant heating for your
addition, and in most cases, we can even use the same
boiler that heats your existing home.
Can I do radiant heating on one floor and baseboard
or hydro air on another floor?
Yes you can, but you have come this far to enjoy the
comfort and economical way to heat your home with radiant,
why not just go ahead and do the entire home with radiant
heat and enjoy the maximum benefits from it.?
How many zones will I have with the radiant
Heating system?
The choice of zones is up to you. We can give you as
many zones as you would like, one for every room if
that is the case.
Can I install radiant heating in my garage or
basement?
Yes you can, radiant heating is suited for garages and
basements. Think about how nice it is getting into a
warm car all winter long, and having your garage floor
dry quickly from the snow and rain that drips off your
car after it comes into the garage. Enjoy the warmth
of the basement that radiant heating will provide without
the cold and damp feeling of an unheated basement.
Is a radiant heating system really expensive
to install?
It is true that this is the most expensive installation
for a heating system, a heating system that is most
economical to run, and most comfortable to live in once
it is installed. Let’s face it, Fuel costs are
not getting any cheaper, nor will they ever be cheap
again. The most important question, you must ask yourself
is “What is the price, I am willing to place,
on a life time of comfort for me and my family, and
a life time of energy savings, worth to me now ?”
After all, this is your home, and your home is your
castle, a place of solitude, security, and a haven for
relaxation and comfort after a hard days work. Who wants
to come home to live in a cold, inefficiently, uneconomically
heated, and uncomfortable home, especially after working
hard all day to pay for this environment? For what it
cost to install a radiant heating system in your home,
people will pay that for a car that will last 3 to 5
years, something that will not provide you with the
return that you spent on it like radiant heating would
for your home, but cost you additional money as well,
like insurance, maintenance, and gas. I guess the only
way I can honestly and with all due respect, answer
this question, would be “How seriously do you
place a value on what you purchase with your hard earned
money?”
